Position Summary:

The 1:1 Direct Care and Program Support staff works 1:1 with individuals with mild to moderate developmental disabilities, and assists them in developing social skills and volunteer/work skills in our group day program.  This staff works with individuals on self-regulatory behavior (including some physical behavior), communication, and task and skill acquisition, as well as manipulating the environment for successful participation.  Additionally, this staff maintains the program's and participants' visual schedules.

Position Details:

This is a full time position, Monday-Friday, 36.25 hours/week based out of our Waltham office. The hourly rate range is $15-16/hr.

 Essential Job Functions:

  • Ensure other program participants and community members' safety through the use of pro-active strategies, blocking, and use of self-protective techniques when necessary (we are a non-restraint program, training provided)
  • Assist clients to achieve goals by maintaining knowledge of their learning styles, strengths and support needs and ensure that skills are taught accordingly.
  • Develop, create, and adapt the use of individualized communication programs for participants as well as update and maintain the CHAI Works visual schedules on a daily basis
  • Communicate effectively and readily with the individual, the individual's family, other day program staff, supervisors and individuals associated with the individual's services, in a collaborative team effort
  • Provide regular pick up and drop off of agency owned vehicle in Brighton, MA and/or Newton, MA

Educational/Experience Requirements:

  • High School degree required. 
  • Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities preferred.  Familiarity with ABA concepts and support strategies preferred.
  • Strong Interpersonal Communication Skills, both oral and written
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Ability to pass First Aid and CPR trainings
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (excel, word, outlook, power point)
