Position Summary:

Project NESST (Newborns Exposed to Substances: Support and Therapy) is housed in Jewish Family and Children's Service Center for Early Relationship Support (CERS).  CERS provides services designed to meet the complex needs of families in the early years of their child's life.  Project NESST is a therapy and mentoring program that works with parents, caregivers, and infants to address the impact of substance use and trauma on parent's mental health, the early parent-child relationship, and infant development.

Project NESST's Mentoring Mom is responsible for providing support, education, treatment planning, referrals and case management to pregnant and new mothers whose newborns have been substance-exposed.  The Mentoring Mom reports to the NESST Mentoring Mom Coordinator/Supervisor.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Work in collaboration with assigned clinician and NESST team to support 5-6 assigned individual clients.
  • Conduct regular visits either on the phone, in a community setting, or through home visits with assigned clinician to bolster client's confidence, support her relationship with her baby, provide information regarding resources, provide information regarding and encourage use of recovery support services and provide connections and assistance with concrete services.
  • Work with program coordinator to conduct develop, implement and revise family treatment plans as they relate to mentoring mom services.
  • Participate actively in twice weekly formal supervision and adhere to daily supervisory check ins.
  • Maintain accurate and timely case records in accordance with program guidelines.
  • Participate Mentoring Moms team meetings, and other CERS/staff meetings as requested.
  • Obtain, within four months of hire, certification in recovery coaching.
  • Participate in all required trainings and staff development programs.
  • Perform additional duties as needed or requested.

Educational/Experience Requirements:

  • Post high school experience working with families and children.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively and engage with high-risk mothers and their families.
  • Willingness to work with a diverse population.
  • Access to a car and a valid driver's license.
  • Willingness to travel within Massachusetts.
  • Must be mature, flexible, able to work independently and have strong interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, Power Point).
  • Desired Qualification: Individuals with life experience dealing with substance use disordersare strongly encouraged to apply
