ABOUT THE ROLE

The Autism Residential Specialist works 1:1 with an individual with disabilities, providing day structure and building independent living skills with this individual. Tasks include, but are not limited to, taking the individual to volunteering opportunities and out to chosen activities each week. The Autism Residential Specialist will also provide minimal support with ADL tasks such as, hygiene prompting, grocery shopping, cooking, and assessing care as needed. Your workday will include:

  • Assisting with independent living skills, including personal care/hygiene, food preparation, social events and community celebrations, facilitating friendships, demonstrating dress and social skills, and more

  • Developing and keeping relevant records on clients' treatment plans

  • Reviewing and writing logs and shift notes

  • Driving client in own vehicle to volunteer opportunities and places in the community

  • Other administrative duties as assigned

Hours available for this position are Mondays 7pm - 10pm, Tuesday - Thursday 6pm -10pm, with some flexibility for schedules accommodated.

ABOUT YOU

Ideal candidates for the role of Autism Residential Specialist bring a positive attitude, empathic interpersonal skills, and common sense.

A successful candidate is:

  • A collaborative colleague eager to join a supportive and engaged team

  • Socially intelligent and comfortable around clients with different needs and ability levels

  • Patient and adaptive to clients' day-to-day needs

  • Organized and able to keep up with records and paperwork

  • A great verbal and written communicator and an empathic listener

Requirements include: 

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Relevant experience with human service roles or with people with disabilities

  • Ability to pass CPR and Basic First Aid within the first 30 days of employment

  • Ability to be flexible in schedule

  • Ability to pass a CORI check

  • A valid driver's license and own vehicle
