JF&CS CHAI Services provide support, strategies, and solutions that strengthen individuals and families, build community connections, and enhance independence. We offer special expertise in addressing the needs of children and adults with developmental disabilities, mental illness, and autism spectrum disorder, while providing services that are inclusive of people with a wide range of strengths and needs.
All CHAI Services interns are required to have a valid driver's license and reliable vehicle. Please note that these are unpaid internships.
CHAI Services Internship Opportunities
Clinical Case Management – MSW I, MSW II
Clinical Case Management interns will provide hands-on assistance and advocacy to adults with mental illness, autism spectrum disorders and/or intellectual disabilities. Interns will provide individualized supports and help clients pursue personal goals, which may include accessing benefits, healthcare, and housing, acquiring money management and self-advocacy skills, developing a social network, and building skills that increase independence and stability. Interns will gain experience in writing clinical documentation and billing notes.
In addition to the individual supervision by the Field Instructor, students will attend monthly operational and clinical team meetings. The agency regularly offers in-service programs, which the student is welcome to attend.
Students are supervised by a staff with LICSW credential.
Community Based Day Programs – Bachelor level, MSW I, CRC
CHAI Works Day Program helps adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities become more independent, pursue individual goals, and experience the gratification of meaningful, productive activity throughout the week by providing community-integrated day programming that builds skills and reflects the interests of participants. Interns will assist program staff to facilitate participant community volunteer and recreation groups. They will work with participants in groups and 1:1 to learn and increase independence with personal goals, safety skills, communication skills, and job skills while gaining experience with ABA/behavior protocol/behavior plans (interfering, not aggressive, behavior). The Day Program has locations in both Waltham and Canton.
Students are supervised by a staff on site, LICSW or CRC licensed supervisor available.
Residential and Supported Living Programs – Bachelor level, MSW I
Residential and Supported Living Programs offer a range of options for adults with disabilities who want to live as independently as possible while enjoying community involvement and pursuing individual goals. Interns will work with individual programs to develop fun and enriching home-based activities at each residential site. Interns may visit locations in Brighton or Newton and assist in and/or lead groups with residents. They will connect with external resources to enrichen program experiences.
Students are supervised by a staff on site, LSW supervisor may be available.
