Position Overview

The Human Resources Director (HRD) is an essential leader at JF&CS setting strategy, overseeing operations, and rolling up their sleeves in areas including recruitment, staff development, comp/benefits planning, and employee relations. The HRD will manage and further enhance all aspects of the agency's human resources department, set priorities, and impact the agency and the 14,000 clients we serve each year. As the HR lead, the director will help to evolve our processes through connection with peers and HR practices.
Reporting to the Chief People and Operations Officer (CPOO), the HRD will work closely with leaders and staff across JF&CS, in a mission-driven, collaborative, and positive environment. The HRD will oversee an HR Coordinator and will work closely with the Payroll Specialist in the Fiscal Department. The HRD is a fulltime position with a hybrid schedule of three to five days a week of in-person work.

Serving more than 14,000 people each year, JF&CS focuses on meeting the needs of new parents and their children, older adults and family caregivers, children and adults with disabilities, and people experiencing poverty, hunger, or domestic abuse. We are based in Waltham, where office staff mostly work a hybrid schedule; and we have a small office in Worcester. We also employ front-line in-person staff in day programs in Canton and Waltham, in residential programs in Brighton and Newton, and in in-home personal care in Brighton.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Support a high quality work environment to attract, nurture, retain and develop an engaged workforce, which is critical to every element of our work
- Recruitment & hiring– Work/partner with hiring managers to design effective and attractive positions, structure interview and selection techniques/process, and facilitate the process from offer to onboarding
- Oversee all elements of new employee orientation to ensure a meaningful transition into the role and the organization
- Employee relations – Serve as a trusted advisor and coach with managers and employees, providing guidance in areas including performance management, organizational development, professional development, leaves, and compensation.
- Offboarding – work with managers on all offboarding, including conducting exit interviews, monitoring trends and their application.
- Training and development: Develop and promote opportunities for training and career development of employees at all levels, including overseeing mandated training
- Oversee and further build performance management programs and processes, designed to engage honest, two-way feedback
- Manage the compensation function ensuring internal and external equity and budget alignment
- Conduct research and analysis of organizational trends including review of reports and metrics from the organization's human resource information system (HRIS) or talent management system and annual employee engagement survey to inform strategic priorities and implementation methods
- Develop and monitor departmental budget
- Ensure compliance with Federal and State laws, regulations, and practices
- Work in concert with the agency's Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Committee, led by the CPOO, to support and promote a fair, inclusive, and respectful workplace.
Qualifications
- 7+ years of experience in progressively responsible human resource roles, including prior experience as a Human Resources Director with functional responsibility for (or deep knowledge of) talent acquisition, onboarding, compensation, management, employee relations and HR project work.
- In addition to functional knowledge of HR, the director should be experienced with building and implementing a talent acquisition strategy including onboarding; leading HR projects, driving process improvements through effective change management.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and collaboration skills – able to build relationships quickly and establish credibility and buy in with employees at all levels from entry level to CEO
- Knowledgeable about Massachusetts and Federal employment law, compensation and benefits management
- Demonstrated ability in management, supervision, and coaching
- A thoughtful leader who melds creativity, flexibility, and careful judgment
- SHRM certification preferred
