For more than 150 years, Jewish Family & Children's Service has been helping individuals and families of build a strong foundation for resilience and well-being. Through an integrated portfolio of more than 40 programs reaching communities throughout Eastern and Central Massachusetts, JF&CS focuses on meeting the needs of new parents and their children, older adults and family caregivers, children and adults with disabilities, and people experiencing poverty, hunger, or domestic abuse. 

 

Placement Summary:

FIRST (Families in Recovery SupporT) Steps Together is a program focused on empowering parents as they work towards recovery from substance use. We are a statewide program and services include home visits, groups, mental health counseling, and support with care coordination and concrete needs. All FIRST Steps Together sites are supported by the Training and Technical Assistance "TA Team", which offers real time support, learning communities, trainings and resources to the staff across our project. The TA Team also works to collaborate with other providers serving parents working towards recovery, in an effort to promote best practices across the field. This internship opportunity is for an MSW or MPH student interested in macro social work or public health policy.

 

Student Assignments Available:  

Research, compile, and analyze practices from across the state to create a project wide manual of best practices to support parents working towards recovery . Assist in the development of training materials, including presentations, handouts, and online resources to support the development of the perinatal specialist workforce. Contribute to TA Team meetings including identifying needs, training planning, responsive services, and project evaluation.

 

Other Supervised Learning:

The student will be supervised by the Clinical Program Specialist and will have opportunities to meet regularly with FIRST Steps Together staff and participate in FIRST Steps Together trainings and team meetings.  FIRST Steps Together is committed to continuous learning and exploration and utilizes reflective supervision throughout the division to explore individual areas for development and growth.

 

If a student is not placed in the Academic Year listed above:

Internship available during academic year or summer.

 

Student will be offered:

  • Mileage reimbursement when student provides outreach services.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
  • Open to a hybrid work model of working remotely and in the office
  • Tuesday/ Thursday availability for meetings
  • MSW student
  • MPH student

Additional qualifications and skills

  • Bilingual (Spanish)
  • Strong demonstrated interest in working with and supporting vulnerable families
