The HR Specialist is responsible for the day-to-day administration, compliance and communication of the employee benefit programs, and works with the HR Director on Talent Management at Jewish Family & Children's Service.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Benefits Management
- Ensure compliance of JF&CS employee benefits programs including annual audits, filings, plan testing, reports, and notices, in accordance with federal and state laws.
- Create employee benefits communication materials for onboarding and offboarding, overall education and guidance and qualified benefits status changes; conduct new employee benefits orientation
- Evaluate current benefits and initiatives and make recommendations for benefits changes to support recruitment and talent retention strategic goals.
- Administer leaves of absence in accordance with federal and state laws; coordinate communication with employees, managers, payroll, and others, as needed.
- Process benefits enrollments and changes; actively participate in biweekly payroll process by communicating payroll changes and LOA pay related details to Payroll Specialist; review necessary employee documentation
- Maintain good working relationships with insurance brokers, account representatives and other vendors.
Talent Management
- Support employee growth and development by assessing areas of need both at the agency and individual level.
- Develop systems and processes to support a robust performance review process. Create communications and material for both employees and managers that emphasize employee growth and development
- Work with HR Director as needed on individual employee performance management.
Qualifications:
- Demonstrated working knowledge of FMLA, PFML, ERISA, worker's compensation and related employment and employee benefit laws
- 3-5+ years of employee benefits administration experience
- Exceptional attention to detail, strong multi-tasking skills
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Ability to manage sensitive and confidential information; well versed in HIPPA compliance
- Demonstrated working knowledge of broad range of general HR practices
- HR or Employee Benefits Certification, a strong plus
- BA/BS in Human Resources or Business, or equivalent work experience
- BA/BS in Human Resources or Business, or equivalent work experience
