Position Summary
Jewish Family & Children's Service (JF&CS) is home to the Betty Ann Greenbaum Miller Center for Jewish Healing, Greater Boston's leading program dedicated to supporting people's mental health and wellbeing and guided by Jewish tradition and spirituality. The Center works to promote a sense of connection, hope, comfort, and wholeness by:
- Serving as a key resource on mental health and wellbeing for the Jewish community, synagogues, and other Jewish organizations
- Supporting people facing loss, illness and mental health challenges
- Offering tools to combat isolation and loneliness and to build resilience
JF&CS is seeking a knowledgeable, dynamic and innovative Director who will build on the Center's rich history and expand its impact across the communities we serve. The ideal candidate is a mental health professional with a program development mindset and a solid grounding in Jewish customs and life cycle events.
The Director will work both internally and externally. Externally, they will work to expand our outreach and partnerships with organizations in mental health and Jewish spaces, funding agencies, and donors to develop, sustain and fund impactful services Internally, they will collaborate closely with other relevant agency staff providing mental health and wellbeing supports. They will also contribute Jewish content and guidance to other agency initiatives.
This position reports to the Division Director, Services for Older Adults (SOA), is a member of the SOA and JF&CS Leadership teams and partners with the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Committee.
Leadership Responsibilities:
Program
- Partner with the Jewish community, synagogues and other Jewish organizations to offer education, emotional and spiritual support, resources and referrals on a variety of topics related to mental health and wellbeing
- Facilitate safe and inclusive support group and/or affinity spaces that empower members to be in community, share experiences and overcome challenges
Management
- Lead and manage all elements of the Center and oversee all activities, including evaluation and quality improvement
- Develop and manage Center budget
- Guide, supervise and/or collaborate closely with other relevant agency staff serving the social service needs of the Jewish community as well as those staff providing mental health and wellbeing supports.
Development
- Cultivate and steward donor relationships
- Develop and respond to new funding opportunities through proposal and grant preparation
Other
- Actively participate in JF&CS and SOA Leadership Teams and partner with the DEI Committee
- Contribute Jewish learning to other agency initiatives.
Qualifications
- Degree in a social work or mental health discipline plus at least 7 years relevant experience preferred, or 10+ years relevant experience
- Solid understanding of Jewish customs and life cycle events
- Strong familiarity with the Greater Boston Jewish community and resources preferred.
- Proven program management skills with demonstrated ability to innovate, multi-task, and collaborate
- Excellent presentation and training skills; experience in facilitating support groups preferred
- Strong community engagement skills to work with a wide range of partners and funders
- Mature and flexible with top-notch communication and interpersonal skills
- A commitment to JF&CS's core values of dignity, human connection, empowerment, and equity.
- Comfortable with Microsoft Office and other technologies, and able to learn, use and oversee client information systems.
- Flexibility to work some evenings and weekends, as needed
Position Highlights & Benefits
- Full-time, exempt position
- Annual salary range: $82,000-$85,000
- Hybrid schedule, requiring at least 2-3 days in-person in the Waltham office or in the community
