The Role

The role of the Community Synagogue Social Worker is multi-faceted – combining direct 1:1 client work, community engagement and relationship building, and being a liaison to existing JF&CS services for mental health and other social service needs. The Community Synagogue Social Worker will partner with synagogues in selected communities (starting with Sharon and one synagogue in Boston), to support the mental health needs of their members through consultation, training, information and referral, case management, basic needs assistance, and more.

They will engage and build strong, trusting relationships with the synagogues and their members by coordinating mental health workshops, attending community events, and meeting with local community providers and resources. They will work closely with synagogue leadership to help identify general needs within the community, and specific needs of individuals who are struggling. They will also provide direct support to community members by providing consultations, referring them to existing services (ie: support groups, basic needs assistance, and specialized case management); and providing short term case management as needed, to help members fully access and utilize the community supports.

Throughout the Community Synagogue Social Worker's work, they will have the opportunity to identify unmet community needs and work with the JF&CS team to identify opportunities for program development to meet those needs. Being a liaison to these communities, the Community Synagogue Social Worker will help individuals get connected with the ongoing supports they need to improve their mental health.

This is a hybrid position with a flexible schedule but will involve some on-site work in both the Sharon and Boston communities and our Waltham headquarters each week. Travel expenses to Boston and Sharon from our headquarters will be reimbursed.

This role would require occasional night and weekend events participation.

About You

Our ideal candidate will have strong relationship building skills and clinical background, with a good understanding of the mental health resources available in the community. The role is a good fit for a creative and resourceful self-starter, excited about the opportunity to define new modes of working in the community.  The ability to communicate effectively across teams and form strong relationships to collaborate both within JF&CS and across organizations are all essential to the role.
